The Interior Design Process: From Brief to Handover
Knowing the stages helps you give feedback at the right time. Studios work differently, but most projects follow this broad pattern.
1. Brief and site study
Your needs, priorities and the constraints of the space are recorded and the site is measured.
2. Layout and concept
Plans and a design direction are developed and refined with your feedback.
3. Detailing and specification
Drawings, materials, finishes and fittings are finalised, and the scope is priced.
4. Execution
Civil and interior work is carried out and coordinated on site. Regular site visits keep quality on track.
5. Finishing and handover
The space is checked against the design, defects are corrected and it is handed over to you.
Questions
How long does the process take?
It depends on size, scope and approvals, so no single timeline fits every project. Discuss your project with the studio.
When should I make decisions?
Settle layout and materials before execution starts. Late changes cost time and money.
